Intriguing! But of course it all boils down to who is the "I" who has or does not have "free will?" I sense that the true essence of this supposed entity is more vast than what could possibly be contained in the embodied brain we "think" we are. Great discussion on this book! <3
The "I am" we are is infinite awareness, or pure being, that from which all apparent "things" including the egoic "self" arises, and will dissolve back into. It is also known as Love. Nothing is lost, but we are not what or who we think we are. I would seriously and humbly recommend Rupert Spira's book, The Nature of Consciousness.
